They resodded the lawn next door, then cranked up a sprinkler and let it run overnight. The temp nosedived to the mid-20s, resulting in this freshly planted tree being encased in ice — a sneak preview of the Chicago winter ahead of us.

Eight inches of rain in a 20-hour stretch led to widespread flooding damage in my community last week. Kudos to the city for collecting water-damaged items for free, though these two chairs, kicked to the curb by my neighbor, appear to be in decent shape. I bet I could have Craigslisted them for at least 20 bucks a pop.

Stonecrop bursts through the soil in my backyard, as today’s temp in Chicago reached 81 humid degrees, an all-time high for March 14 and the third-earliest 80-degree day on record.

Using iMovie and the sports setting on my Canon camera, I created a stop-motion video (of sorts) of my daughter playing in the snow. Music credit for the clip goes to Sigur Ros with the track “Med Sud I Eyrum.”
